Have you rubbed yet???

Whether you are new to scrapbooking and cardmaking or have been around the block a few times, you'd have to agree that Making Memories have a great range of Rub On Alphabets and are what I'd call a "core product", one that you can use over and over again without feeling you've done it all before and your projects are starting to look the same.

Eventhough we are a Bazzill specialist store, this is a product I believe will always be needed and unless Bazzill create something as nice as this, we will probably always stock them.

I use them consistently and particularly the Heidi and Beach fonts because they are so elegant. The Beach font letters just flow together in a running script when you rub them on - just lovely.

They come in various colours, with hundreds of characters in each book (some have of 700!) - the quantity depends on the size of the character. Each packet on our website displays the quantity and the type of characters in each pack i.e. uppercase, lowercase, numbers, punctuation etc.

They are so easy to use and come in a handy book that won't fall apart. I always manage to lose the plastic case they come in so when that happens I just put a rubber band around them and pop them into the drawer where I store them all. The icy pole stick is supplied but you can use any stylus type product (I've even resorted to using the ends of some other tools!). All you do is cut off the letters you want and place them on the project. Using the stick or a stylus of your choice - simple rub lightly until you see the colour of the letter get lighter which means it's been rubbed onto the project.

How simple is that to produce an elegant form of lettering on your projects like here with the title "A passion for life" done with rubons...

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas....

"Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light.
From now on our troubles will be out of sight.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the yuletide gay.
From now on our troubles will be miles away.
Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days or yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us,
Gather near to us, once more.
Through the years we all will be together,
if the fates allow.
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough,
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now. "

For Christmas this year, I decided to do a Christmas card with a difference for my family using Accordian Cardstock. I just love these accordian pieces, they are 18 inches long, so 1 1/2 times as long as a normal sheets of 12" Bazzill. The idea for a "storybook" styled card came from Deb Fisher and the photos and the words are printed together onto photo paper - so they are very quick and easy! I used the lyrics to the song "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", which I found the words on the internet, so you could search for the words of any Christmas song yourself too.

These delightful Christmas trees were inspired by Bazzill themselves when we saw what they did for their Memory Trends display in Las Vegas in Sept. 2006. We fashioned them from the photos but Bazzill has now produced a little book full of Christmas ideas called "Holiday" which will be in store very soon at Remember When.

Heidi's Holiday Wreath
The instructions for this wreath can be downloaded
HERE as a PDF document from the Bazzill Basics website.

For ours we used a Sizzix Holly & Berries die which produced a leaf a bit smaller than the one suggested in the "recipe" but found it very suitable for the job nonetheless.

We found the styrofoam wreath (which we painted green) and the small wooden sticks, similar to a matchstick at Spotlight. We used the small wooden sticks in lieu of the small popsicle sticks as we couldn't find those.

Bazzill Baubles

The people who saw these at the shows we attended in Melbourne and Sydney just recently all wanted to know how they were made. Simple! Just punch or cut out circles in Bazzill and then using a self made template for a triangle to fit inside the circle out of scrap cardboard, fold in three sides of the circle. Keep repeating this until you have quite a few folded circles ready.

All you need to do then is start glueing the folded sections together until you have formed the ball. You can do this with as many or as few as you like. The smaller ones can have as few as 8 circles all together and the larger ones have 20.

If you wish to hang them off your tree as we did at the Sydney Show, just glue some fibre or ribbon in between one of the joins as you glue them.

New Challenge!

The next "Words" Challenge is now set and loaded onto our website here.
The quotes you can choose from for the current challenge are:

  1. "Nothing is too small to know, and nothing too big to attempt." ~ William Van Horne
  2. "How beautiful it is to be alive!" ~Henry Septimus Sutton
  3. " Live that you may learn to love. Love that you may learn to live. No other lesson is required." ~ Milton Forester

Come shop at the Barn!

We've been talking about it for 12 months - Gosh, it's just occured to me, we've been in our Barn for a year now!

But yes finally, we think we are ready. On Wednesday November 29th between 9.30am and 2.30pm the Barn is open for shopping! As this is our first Open Day we'd appreciate if you could email us your intention of coming on the email link
HERE. This is not imperative but we'd just love to get an idea of how many are hoping to come to be sure we have enough people here if needed.

Remember, we are not a normal retail shop front and the Barn is located at the rear of a private residence. All other times are by appointment only. The address is 3749 Ballarto Road, Bayles (The CBD of Victoria ~ an hour sth east of Melbourne!!). We will put balloons out the front of the house. Our phone is 03 59977284. There is not alot of room for children or prams in the Barn, so if possible it would be best to try and come without but your full supervision will be required if you bring them.

If you're driving a distance to come to our Open Day, I can suggest a couple of other stops to make your trip worth while near by (we have no affiliation except admiration).

One is an amazing shop in KooWeeRup (just 7kms away) called "Something Shabby, Something Chic". It is full of amazing oldwares and is set up in an old picture theatre. You could lose yourself in there for hours. The set up is absolutely delightful.

It is located in Rossiter Road (Main Road) KooWeeRup. There is also a great gift shop in KooWeeRup (just on the other side of the road) called "Bees Knees"... There are plenty of food options in KooWeeRup. If you wish to bring a picnic and weather permitting, Bayles has a lovely Fauna Park and playground and is opposite the General Store (yes we are really rural here!)...

Well hello there....

Welcome to the RW Blog, where we hope to keep you up to date with what's happening at the Barn.

I was so excited recently to meet the owners of Bazzill, Doug & Marti Jones. They came out for the Sydney Paper Crafts show where they were surprised to see a store dedicated to their product range - it appears we are indeed a globally unique store as Australia's Bazzill Specialist and we intend to stay that way too!

We have a few exciting things in store to emerge soon and will keep you updated as they are put into place.

Both Debi and I hate this photo as we are both paranoid about our double chins and I have to admit it is not the most flattering photo of me but I was just so excited to have a photo with Doug and Marti I forgot all about the tactics we do to try and get a better photo!

You'll get to know alot more about Debi and her talents soon and hopefully she will be contributing on here too.
